Rescheduling Biometric Appointments

USCIS has recently launched a new tool to their website allowing benefit requesters and their attorneys/accredited representatives to reschedule biometric appointments.

Ur M. Jaddou, the director of USCIS had this to say: “We are working steadily to improve the customer experience by designing and delivering services in a manner that people of all abilities can access.”

Previously applicants and attorneys would have to call USCIS and be subject to long hold times to reschedule these appointments. Now, users only need to make an online account.

This comes as a step in fulfilling EO 14058, or Executive Order on Transforming Federal Customer Experience and Service Delivery to Rebuild Trust in Government.

Note that appointments may only be rescheduled under certain circumstances, or “good cause” which according to USCIS, includes but is not limited to:

  • Illness, medical appointment, or hospitalization;

  • Previously planned travel;

  • Significant life events such as a wedding, funeral, or graduation ceremony;

  • Inability to obtain transportation to the appointment location;

  • Inability to obtain leave from employment or caregiver responsibilities; and

  • Late delivered or undelivered biometric services appointment notice.

It is important to note that this service can only be used for rescheduling and cannot be used to schedule the initial appointment.
