ONLINE FILING FOR FORM I-589 APPLICATION NOW AVAILABLE

USCIS announced that Form I-589 Application is now available online for some affirmative asylum applications.

The decision to expand online filing was made, according to USCIS Director, Ur Jaddou, to make operations more efficient and effective.

What happens to paper forms?

USCIS says it will continue to accept the latest version of the form by mail. The option to file affirmative asylum applications online is part of the ongoing effort to reduce reliance on paper actual paper and to facilitate the shift to an electronic environment.

Does online filing apply to everyone?

The option to file an online Form I-589 is, currently, only available for certain affirmative asylum applications. Applicants may use this option if they are physically present in the United States, according to the announcement by the USCIS.
